The Society for the History of Economic Thought of Japan, Annual Meeting 1989 and the Regional Activities
The annual meeting for 1989 was held at Kyushu University on 4-5 November. The following 22 papers were presented in all.

The next annual meeting will be held at Kanto Gakuin University on 10-11 Novem ber 1990.

The Tohoku Branch

The Kanto Branch
On 18 March at Nihon University two papers were read: 1. Dugald Steward's view of population and national wealth (Kaname Ohta) 2. The economic thought of Max Weber (Jun Kobayashi)
On 3 June at Keio Gijuku University two papers were read: 1. From politics mercantile to economics civile: 'Mercantilism' and its critics in 18th century Naples (Takashi Okuda) 2. Malthus' theory of 'general glut' (Katsuyoshi Watarai)
On 7 October at Keio Gijuku University two review papers were read on the book : Shigeyoshi Senga, A study of Ricardo's political economy, April 1989 (Arifumi Sato and Ken Mizuta) Rejoinder by Shigeyoshi Senga
The Kansai Branch
On 28 January 1989 at Kinki University two papers were read: 1. Robertson and Keynes: 'Step by step method' and adjustment mechanism (Masaaki Yoshida) 2. Walras' attitude to mathematical method (Kunio Nakakubo)
On 27 May at Kyoto University 4 papers were read: 1. Thomas Paine on economic theory (Takeo Nakatani) 2. The Institutionalization Approach in Economic Thought: Introduction (Kiichiro Yagi) 3. A Marshall and the institutionalization of economics at Cambridge (Shoichi Hashimoto) 4. The making of the university of commerce in Japan (Tamotsu Nishizawa)
On 7 October at Kwansei Gakuin University two papers were read: 1. On A Smith's theory of division of labour and this theory of money (Ryojo Ochi) 2. Kohzaha and its influence on the study of the history of economic thought (Shiro Sugihara)
The Seinan Branch
On 14-15 January 1989 at Seinan Gakuin University the following three papers were read: 1. Hankey and Bagehot: Two principles of banking (Yukio Fujita) 2. On J. Locke's idea of property (Toyomitsu Okamura) 3. The French Revolution in Scotland: The case of Thomas More (Ryo Suzuki)
