ANNUAL MEETING 1986 AND REGIONAL ACTIVITIES
The annual meeting for 1986 was held at Waseda University, Tokyo on 8-9 November. The common theme of the meeting was 'the Scottish Enlightenment and the Formation of Political Economy' on which the following three papers were read with the comments by the four discussants, under the chairmanship of Toshihiro Tanaka and Satoshi Yamasaki.
1. The Scottish Enlightenment and moral philosophy: Adam Fergason (Yasuo Amano).

2. The Scottish Enlightenment and Smith's Wealth of Nations. (Toshiharu Nozawa).
Discussant: Shoji Tanaka.
3. Dugald Stewart and the Scottish Enlightenment: His Lectures on Political Economy (Hisashi Shinohara)

In addition, the following 16 papers were presented in all.
1. Locke's theory of property in his Two Treatises of Government (Junichi Furukawa).
2. The logic of Ricardo' s new view of machinery (Tetsuhiro Endo).
3. Ricardo on machinery: on unemployment and overproduction (Masashi Izumo)
4. Theories of F. Soddy and N. Georgescu-Roegen: a comparison from the viewpoint of the resource-environment problem (Isao Kamisato).
5. The formation and dissolution of 'the state school': a consideration of Russian theories of the liberalistic state (Shuichi Sugiura).
6. Wilhelm Schulz's historical theory of property (Kunihiko Uemura).
7. The formation of the methodology of classical political economy by J.E. Cairnes (Kensuke Sasaki).
8. F.A. Hayak and the Walrasian system (Yukihiro Ikeda).
9. J.A. Schumpeter's instrumentalism (Yuichi Shionoya).
10. The formation process and reconstruction of historical materialism in Marx (Takurozaemon Kawasaki).
11. The formation of Marx's theory of price of production (Nobuyoshi Torii).
12. The development of the theory of capital accumulation and 'the system o f natural liberty in Adam Smith (Nobuyoshi Kawashima).
13. Bšhm-Bawerk's theories of money and credit in his lecture notes (Shigeki Tomo).
14. A re-examination of Ricardo's value theory (Hiroji Nakamura).
15. An aspect of political economy in its early period: H. Brougham's criticism of Lauderdale in the Edinburgh Review (Tamio Odaira).
16. Lord Kames' criticism of the feudal system and the social reform of Scotland (Hideo Tanaka).
Professor Masaharu Tanaka, Kohnan University, was elected as the next president with the other directors. His two-year presidency will begin from April 1987 to succeed Professor Takuya Hatori.
The next annual meeting will be held at Kansai University, Osaka in November 1987.
Regional meetings: The following regional meetings have been held since the meetings previously reported.
The Kanto branch
On 8 October 1986 at Chuo University where two papers were read: 1. Risorgimento in the history of Italian economics: The critical economic thought of Giuseppe Ferrari (Junichiro Kurosu) 2. Ricardo's theory of value (Ken Mizuta).
The Kansai branch
On 27 September at Kobe Gakuin University where two papers were read: 1. Economic theories of Sismondi (Takuo Dohme); 2. Riemon Uno and the ideas of the Society for Industrial Education (Kaoru Sugihara).
