RECENT ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF ECONOMIC THOUGHT, JAPAN.
The recent activities of the Japan HET Society since the annual meeting in 1986 were those of the four regional branches.
The Kanto branch:
On 7 February 1987 at Chuoh University two papers were read: J.S. Mill's economic method (Kiyoshi Tachikawa); 2. J. S. Mill in the East India Company (Mitsuo Takashima).
On 30 May at Nihon University were two papers were presented: 1. The critiques of the mechanical quantity theory of money by James Stewart (Ikuo Ohmori); 2. The origin of the labour theory of value: W. Petty (Masao Hamabayashi).
The Kansai Branch:
On 17 January 1987 at Doshisha Women's College the following two papers were read: 1. The formation of the commodity world and the theory of value forms (Hironori Tohyama); 2. The transformation of value into price of production (Sadao Ohno).
On 23 May at Kwansei Gakuin University where 3 papers were read; 1 . On the Principles of Political Economy by J. Stewart (Hiroshi Takemoto); 2 . From Economics of Industry to Principles of Economics: Development of Marshall's economic thought (Shoichi Hashimoto); 3. Free trade discourses at the end of the 19th century (Jiro Kumagai).
The Seinan branch:
On 17 January at Fukuoka University where the following 4 papers were presented: 1. An inquiry into Marshall's 'representative firm' (Nobuo Iwashita); 2. On a Specific Training Hypothesis (Katsuhiko Fukuzawa); 3. Proudhon's theory of property in his later years (Etsunori Saito); 4. The trend of French political economy immediately before Tableau economique: Gournay, Forbonnais, and Cantillon (Shohei Yoneda).
On 13 July at Tokuyama University where the following 7 papers were read: 1. The development of Keynes' theory of effective demand (Shinichi Yamada); 2. On Veblen 's Theory of the Leisure Class (Tetsuo Taka); 3. The functional pluralistic theory of the st ate and the Marxian theory of the state: Yasuma Takata's critiques of the Malian theory of the state (Ryoji Kaneda); 4. The basic characteristics of subjective theory of value: W. S. Jevons and E. V. Bšhm-Bawerk (Kiyoshi Hasada); 5. Marx's theory of labour period (Sumio Kamazaki); 6. Precious metal currency and the Classical School (Minoru Arita); 7. The trend of reviews of Ricardo's Principles: The British Review (Hiroji Nakumura).
The Tohoku branch:
On 13 June at Tohoku University two papers were read: 1. The structure of Ricardo's theory of machinery (Tomiichi Hoshino); 2. The establishment of theory of surplus value and the reorganization of the plan of the Capital Part III. (Izumi Ohmura).
